I am looking for information on  Michael Coyne of Loughaunbeg and his family.

I believe his wife's name was Connolly or Conneely before they married in 1884 and she was born in Spiddal abt 1863.  During the years of 1886 - 1905 they had 9 children, Martin, Mary, Ellen (my great-grandmother), Michael, John, James, Patrick, Joseph, and Edward; most of whom (possibly all) migrated to Portland Maine in the early 1900's.

Martin, the oldest child moved back to Galway, lived and died in Spiddal.  I can't seem to trace this family back any further. I would love to be able to. I have found photos of some of my great-uncles, and Mary, my great aunt on Ancestry but none of my great-grandmother, Ellen. I would also love to know more about Mary, my great-great-grandmother. Any information or a point in the right direction would be so helpful and I would be so appreciative!!

    Below are the 1901 and 1911 census records for the family. The 1911 census indicates that the couple were married around 1881-1882 rather than 1863 as you mentioned in your note. I searched for a civil marriage record with no success and did not locate the church marriage record on Roots Ireland.

    I think are located the 1936 death record for Michael. he was a widower but I was unable to locate a related death record for Mary.

    The 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Killannin civil parish shows a Martin Coyne in Loughaunbeg and likely he is the father of Michael. There was also a Bartholomew Coyne and a John Coyne in Loughaunbeg but I think Martin is likely since the oldest child of Michael was Martin.  http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/galway/killannin.htm

  • I found the marriage with Michael's surname as a spelling variation - Kyne,  Marriage of Michael Kyne and Mary Conneely on the 12th February 1884 in the Catholic Chapel at Knock, the groom is noted as a farmer with current residence Loughaunbeg, the bride is a servant with residence of what looks like Cregduff. The fathers are Martin Kyne and Michael Conneely both farmers and noted as deceased.

    EDITED : also the death of Mary Kyne nee Connelly in 1919  and the death of Mary snr, widow of Martin in 1914

  • As Roger mentioned in the other post the records for the Catholic Parish of Spiddal only go back to 1861, but I was able to locate the baptism of a probable younger brother to your Michael - Thomas Kyne bapt. 19th December 1861, parents Martin Kyne and Mary Folan. The godparents are Nich[olas]? Coneely & Mary Flaherty.

    Thank you so much! I am just so excited to have this information and to be able to go back another generation!  It is so amazing what is out there for information. I work in our State library here in the States and I will be recommending this website to those who are researching their Irish lineage.
