Hi Everyone
Looking for some information about the cravens of taghmaconnell. My gg grandfather Matthew craven (1844/5) came to England in the late 1860s. His fathers name was Martin Craven. I never knew where he came from other than the county of Roscommon. However after deducing from the records I felt like he had come from the cravens in taghmaconnell. I think I found him on the petty registers amongst other craven records on there as well as the other records available. Anyway I recently did the ancestry DNA and south roscommon was my main genetic community and I had lots of matches with cravens/cravens/creavins from taghmaconnell. Some of my matches have Martin, William, Peter, Patrick, Joseph and so forth as their oldest ancestors . I’ve also matched with lots of finnerans. Has anyone got any information on the cravens in that area. Also can anyone advise me on what taghmaconnell transport is like and where is there to stay in the local area or ballnsaloe as I’m thinking of coming to Ireland (after lockdown and coronavirus) with my daughter but I don’t drive.
Best wishes
Sam

Hi Sam,
Ballinasloe is the nearest town to Taughmaconnell. There are a number of hotels there and plenty pubs!
You can travel by coach from Dublin Airport.
Good Luck on your Trip.
