Hi my husband and I will be in Moneygall Sept. 8th and 9th of next Sept. I would like to visit the church in Moneygall where my 2x gr- grandmother was baptised (Mary Quinlan May 5, 1838 Dunkerrin) if someone can meet us here. I will fill out a form closer to the time. I was told there may be some Quinlan's buried in the Cullenwaine graveyard. Is it possible to visit here if it is open to the public? Any other local, ancestral places would you suggest?

thank-you,

Debbie Colson

  • Going by the birth date you gave this is what I found.

Her parents Malack Quinlan and Mary Dillon.
She is a twin to Margaret.
    Ballinakill is the townland.

There is a William Quinlan there in 1835.  This is in the Tithe records.

  • Just came back from a stay in Offaly.  I recommend a visit to the small town of Geashall--Battle of Geashall sculptures and park; Glebe Walk; the "town square."  Also, a walk along the Grand Canal in Tullamore and a visit to Tullamore town.  Enjoy.

  • Thank-you Margot for your information on my ancestors and including it here. I already have these records but a 2nd copy is always good. I do not have the information on James Quinlan though. Thank-you.

Thank-you Patricia for ideas of where to visit when I am in the Moneygall area.

Do either of you know if the Cullenwaine Cemetery is open to the public?

How are in advance do I need to fill out a form that I will be visiting and hopefully someone can help me make contact with the PP of Moneygall so I can see the inside of the church?

Thank you both so very much!

  • HI, I was given some great information above and appreciate it. Does anyone know if the Cullenwaine Cemetery is open to the public? There were so many Quinlans in the area, I feel there may have been some ancestors buried here. Oral family stories said that we had some Quinlan Priest. I wonder if any are buried here. I am gathering info for our trip in Sept.

    thank-you in advance,
