I believe I have at least 3 branches that originated in the Clonfert area and am looking for any connections to others' family trees.  GGgfather Thomas Cunniffe m Ann Gorey (dob @1821).  Their daughter Maria (O'Brien) died in childbirth in townland of Brackloon, parish of Clonfert in 1867.  Ann Gorey Cunniffe and her son John (my Ggfather, born @1853) emigrated to US in 1873 along with 2 of the O'Brien children.

GGgfather Michael Horan was born in parish of Clonfert @ 1830.  He married Mary Laughlin (born @ 1837) in US shortly after arriving in US.  The Irish seemed to stay close to people from back home in their early years in US so I'm guessing that she may have been from the Clonfert area also.

  • Hi Tony, that is wonderful information. Keep up the good work. The O'Brien lady most likely connects to two other Clonfert families Hynes and Ryan. Their maternal line was O'Brien. We can indentify where she formerly lived. A small grove of trees stood on the site where the O'Brien house was until fairly recently. I will speak to Pat Ryan who is doing work on the Ryan family tree and see if he has some further information on this side of the family. Christy C.
