My grandfathers name was Daniel Fahy - his mother was Mary Fahy - she past away on 4th November 1946 in Moyvilla Athenry, Co.Galway.  My grandfather was one of 11 children.  I think his fathers name was Jeremiah.

My grandfather came to New Zealand with his brothers - 5 of them in total.  I think they had some sort of involvement with the IRA?  There is a article that I found that made reference.

Does anyone have any links to them?

Thanks

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Please see the 1911 census record below. Is this the correct family in Moyveela East townland? Note father is Michael and Daniel was not in the house when the census was taken. I also provided the 1901 census where Daniel was included. Looks like ten sons and one daughter in 1901. There was a 12th child according to the 1911 census. Any idea where Daniel was in 1911?

  • Hi Roger - thank you :-)

Yes this is my grandfathers family.

Yes By 1911 he had left Ireland - from what I have been told he & his brothers fled Ireland - not sure where they went to first - but eventually they ended up in New Zealand.

There was whispers about them being involved in the IRA - not sure how true this is and if I can even find out any information about this.

My grandfather Daniel went to Waihi in the North Island of NZ were he was a gold miner and his brothers settled in Invercargill in the South Island.

There was someone by the name of LouiseM that left me a message on this message board – her father – my great uncle inherited the farm and she had lived on it for a while.

I would dearly love to get into contact with her – but don’t know how – would you have any ideas on this?

Or do you have any ideas on how I could connect with living relatives?

    Thank you

    Janet

I went back and located your original message in October 2013 where LouiseM left a message. I see that Elwyn left a comment yesterday telling you that if LousieM is using the same e-mail address then she should get a notification about your interest in getting touch.

Fahy/Fahey is a very common surname in Co. Galway. You could contact the branch library in Athenry and see if they have any suggestions. They will have prvacy restrictions like we do but maybe they can suggest a place/forum to leave an online message.
