Hi!

I've been on the hunt for ANY information I can find out about my GGG Gpa Daniel Gleeson or his family.

My Daniel was born in late 1815, early 1816.  He deserted from the Army (70th Regiment on Foot) whilst stationed in Montreal Canada in 1842 and was transported as a convict to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) Australia in 1843.  His convict records states he was from County Tipperary.  He had two D tattoos under his left breast, indicating at least one prior desertion offense.

I found a document for a Daniel Gleeson deserting the army in 1836 whilst serving in the 50th Regiment (Queen's Own) that states his native place as Ballymackey.  Further research revealed that the army was drafting for the 50th in Tipperary around 1832.  I strongly believe I'm on the right path and this is my Daniel.

Not that it is a guarantee, but if Daniel and his wife named their children by naming the first son after the father's father and the second daughter after the father's mother, Daniel's father's name would be Michael and his mother's name Bridget.  According to his convict records, he had a brother William and a sister Catherine back in his native place. Daniel's convict record says he was Roman Catholic, but I understand it is a Protestant church in the town...perhaps the officer assumed he was RC because he was Irish?

Any help you could provide would be absolutely wonderful!

Thank you VERY much!
