I have been trying to find the birth of Daniel Joseph Bruyn (Bruin) c.1813 in Roscommon for years.

Census data in England has his birth place as Roscommon.

Father: Edward Mother: Margaret. Daniel.

He was a Blacksmith by trade and his Ancestors (unless his wife's did) are in France.

He was married in Staffordshire England 5 Feb 1837 to Sarah Helen Nicholls at West Bromwich.

1845-1848(approx) they lived in France (for about about 4 years and left during some internal conflict, I think the French rioted over foreigners taking their jobs or something like that) and were apparently back with their kin (according to one of their daughter's obituaries here it NSW). I have copies of two births and 1 death in France of his children (these have Daniel's middle name).

Thanks in advance for any assistance with his birth in Roscommon (one researcher has his birthplace as Killaqueen but I think this is spelt wrong and I have not had it confirmed).

Thanks in advance,

Wayne

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Only five RC parishes in Co. Roscommon have records back to 1813. I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland and was not able to find a Daniel Bruen baptismal record around 1813. I also looked for any Bruen baptismal records where the father was Edward and the mother had a first name of Margaret but no records.

There is no Killaqueen in Roscommon and as you indicated the spelling was wrong but there are many possibilities.

You may want to add Daniel to our XO Chronicles site and maybe someone will see a connection.  https://irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy/ancestor-database

  • Thanks Roger McDonnell,

Yes I was thinking we still wouldn't find anything.

I have already put his photograph and some info in the Roscommon part of the Ancestors section.

    Kind Regards,

    Wayne
