Daniel & Elizabeth were my great, great, great grandparents. I use the above spelling of McLauchlan but have seen a number of variations.
They were Catholic and were married in Oughaval Parish on 16 May 1833.
I have 3 daughters confirmed as Helen, Sarah and Agnes. Sarah being my direct ancestor. There are possibly 3 sons James, Peter and Daniel.
I’m 1851 Daniel was in Scotland and I can find no further record of Elizabeth.
the 3 daughters were all married in Scotland.

I am  hoping to find out more about the family if anyone can help.

I would love to know where in the parish they were living. I’m planning a tour of my ancestors birth places so would like to be as accurate as possible.

Many thanks in advance

Paula

  • Paula,

Subscription site www.rootsireland.ie has a record of this marriage. Daniel McLoughlin and Elizabeth Reily. Witnesses: Austin Gavan and Catherine Regan. Parents names or address not recorded.

I attach records of the name McLoughlin and Reilly in Westport from Griffith's valuations. There is a record of a Gavin (Austin) in the townland of Bellataleen No.10.

McLoughlin and Reilly were common surnames in the area.

You can access those records for free  www.askaboutireland.ie/Griffith's Valuations.

Tithe Records - 1823 to 1837 did not show any McLoughlin or Reily.

    Paula,

Attached map of the townland of Bellataleen which is in the area of Murrisk and on the road to Louisburgh. Westport Town is to the East.

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to check this for me. I have tried to find a link between the bride and groom and the witnesses thinking there might be a family connection but no luck so far. It was through a Poorhouse application in Scotland that I was able to confirm I have the right couple. As you say, they are common surnames.
I really appreciate the help and the quick response!
    kind regards
