Hello

My 2nd great grandfather never made it to America as he died and was buried in Co Cork. I need to find him   because want to know exactly what town he and wife were settled and were his children my great grandfather William was from? Can’t find them on Ancestry.com Uk or the American Ancetry.

It was suggested to me that I start here in Inchigeelagh so here I am … Daniel O’Leary may have been born abt 1826 _1830 and since his wife Jane Duggan were married at Ss Peters&Pauls church in 1846 . Please don’t let that stop you from look at the parish in Inchigeelagh. His death may between 1850 through 1879. Jane came to America in 1881.

This is all the info I have and birth and death is based on the wedding and her arrival in NYC USA in 1880

With great appreciation

  • Hi Barbara,

    Thank you for your message.

Church records from Inchigeelagh are available online free of charge at http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/

Catholic records for the parish of Inchigeelagh/Iveleary begin as early as 1816 so if Daniel was born there you should be able to find his baptismal record:

    http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/rcparishmaps/index.cfm?fuseaction=showidrecords&CityCounty=Cork%20North-West&parish=Iveleary&churchid=62

Also have you tried looking for Daniel in Griffith?s Valuation? This is a property valuation survey carried out 1848-64. It doesn?t give any genealogical information but can sometimes help tie a person to a specific place. You can search this online here:

    http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=nameSearch

Best of luck with your research!

  • I'm sorry but I need more help with this as the website you sent does not work ... I am so disappointed. I did find a docu on Ancestry but I need more then that; I need the name of the church and a church website. That is how I can make thin s happen. I have been on  Griffith’s Valuation it is limited and frustrating as well..

Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.

  • Hello Martin

If u were askin me to furnish names and dates below is all I have as proof of a marriae between Daniel O'Leary and Jane Duggan 1864

Jane was born abt 1830 and immigrated in 1880 to America so her death here is of no signifigance.

William O'Leary there son was born in 1858 plus or minus . He went to America and died in 1940. My great grandfather was a wigmaker but did his apprenticeship in Dublin . Do you think there are such records some where?

    Charles O'Leary 1855

    Thank you

    Barbara

  • Wow I am not worthy you did a brilliant job..... My friend Rick is in cork and has been looking at Ss Peters & Pauls and the priest sent him to St Joseph's Cemetery. Is that where they bury there parishoners? On Death Certs do they have family info? He was  given a number and went to the office and the fellow looked at him as if he has 3 heads....LOL!!!

    In Ricks words:

The Daniel in this directory is a new addition--but Daniel the music store owner had been in the Cork directories for years before.  What is missing in thIs edition is Stephen, who had a shop across the street making musical instruments and John the hairguy was just around the corner from both.  They must be related, but whether brothers or cousins I don't know.  But they seem to have done fairly well for themselves.

Daniel the music guy disappears from the directories after 1872, so maybe he got sick or something happened where he lost the business.  That is why i think the Daniel who died in 1878 is probably that Daniel; and if there were any furthur info on the death certificate or grave plot, we could confirm.

    Once again Daniel Kids were

Arthur Charles Henry ( Wigmaker) I am assuming trained with Brother William (Wigmaker Barber) in Dublin. Then there is Brother John who was a Hairstylist or dresser and Theresa and Jane.

Thank you again and please let me know if you uncover anything else.Could you tell me how the cemetery numbers work.
