Hello Jennifer,
I found the baptism of only one child of David Lynch and Johanna Brien. This child is their son John, who was baptized in St. Mary’s, Cork City, on 18 April 1827. The full name of this church is the Cathedral of St. Mary and St. Anne, located at the top of Shandon Street in Cork City, north of the River Lee. It is also known as the Cork Cathedral. I’ll have more information about the Cathedral a little later.
I initially located a baptism transcription for John Lynch at the Find My Past (FMP) website. FMP is mainly a subscription and pay-as-you go website, but does not charge to search for Catholic Church baptisms, marriages, and available church burial records in Ireland.
To search for Irish Catholic Church records at FMP you’ll first have to establish an account. Establishing an account is also free.
The search engine for the FMP baptism transcriptions can be found at: http://tinyurl.com/jnmqmuv
The search engine for Catholic marriages can be accessed at: http://tinyurl.com/jzylkjy
For Catholic Parish burial transcriptions go to the search engine at: http://tinyurl.com/j9qe5p9
Attached to each baptism, marriage, or burial transcription is a link that will take you to a copy of the original parish register entry for the baptism, marriage, or burial record you are looking for. Copies of the original parish registers are free to access and are held by the National Library of Ireland headquartered in Kildare Street, Dublin.
To view the FMP baptism for John Lynch go to the following link: https://www.findmypast.co.uk/transcript?id=IRE%2FPRS%2FBAP%2F0935245
The Catholic Parish of St. Mary’s was located in the Civil Parish of St. Anne’s Shandon.
To access a copy of the original baptism record for John Lynch, go to the National Library of Ireland website link at: https://registers.nli.ie//registers/vtls000633154#page/263/mode/1up
Once the page is accessed you’ll see two facing pages to the baptism register. John’s baptism entry is the 11th entry on the left-hand register page. You can enlarge the page by means of round icons in the upper center/ right of the screen. The icons are white with green backgrounds. You can also access the full-screen function by clicking on the last icon on the right with the two arrows pointing northeast and southwest.
The baptism record shows that John’s godparents were Thos (Thomas) Walsh and Mary Sullivan.
In your message to Ireland Reaching Out you provided a transcription of the marriage for David Lynch and Johanna Bryan. I also found their 6 April 1826 marriage transcription at the FMP website: https://www.findmypast.com/transcript?id=IRE%2FPRS%2FMAR%2F0191112%2F1
A copy of the original St. Mary’s marriage record for David and Johanna can be accessed at the National Library of Ireland link at: https://registers.nli.ie//registers/vtls000633155#page/74/mode/1up
The marriage is located on the left-hand register page, first entry under the April 1826 subheading. The witnesses to the wedding were John Lynch and Ellen Brien. John Lynch may have been David’s brother while Ellen Brien may have been Johanna’s sister.
For a history of St. Mary and St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Cathedral in Cork City, go to the Wikipedia article at:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cathedral_of_St_Mary_and_St_AnneTo view a Google Map of the Cathedral go to: https://is.gd/eJnY7m
And for a Google Street View of the Cathedral see: https://is.gd/bE44vk
The Cathedral also has its own website at: https://www.corkcathedral.ie/
Jennifer, did the Lynch family remain in Cork, or did they eventually leave Cork City and move to County Galway? Or, did they leave Ireland all together and immigrate to England, the U.S. Canada, or Australia?
Kind Regards,
Dave Boylan

Hi Jennifer, I have the same type of problem. After 30 years of research I cannot find out where in County Cavan my great grandfather was born. I have his father's name but not the maiden name of his mother. His parents were Patrick and Mary, two of the most common Irish first names, but without the maiden name of his mother I'll never know for sure where he came from, except the for the county of his birth.
I hope your research will yield results someday.
Thank you for writing back.
Dave
