I am trying to find the parish location of Martin Dee. Apparently, there were three Martin Dees living in Waterford in the 19th century: Rathgormack, Kilgobnet north of Dungarven, and northeast Waterford county. I was in Waterford in 2018. I went to the Rathgormack cemetery, and the Martin Dee that was there was not mine. I didn't have time to look at the two other areas in Waterford. I did go to the O'Dea Castle in County Clare and the Powers Castle in Waterford County. I am descended from Patrick Dee son of Martin and Ellen Dee. Last year, I submitted a civil war pension form for John Dee (Patrick's brother) to the National Archives which they lost. :( I was hoping to find the parish listed in his records. John Dee took my grandmother to the saloon in San Diego and placed my 6 year old grandmother on the bar and told her about his war stories. Martin Dee b. ca. 1801 Ireland m. The family came over with the Allen family (a Hannah Dee was married to James Allen). When he landed, he married Hanora Powers (b. ca. 1840) who was also on the boat in 1856. Patrick became a U.S. citizen in 1857.
They had thirteen children. Seven preceded Patrick in death. CHILDREN: MaryAnn (b. ca. 1875) "Mrs. J.P. McCaffery" of Anaconda, Montana (b. Michigan. She married 25, May , 1898. The mines failed and some of the family went to Youngstown, Mahoning County, Ohio in 1875 and on to Denver, Colorado, Butte and Goldcreek, Montana, Washington and California. *********************************** Patrick Dee died February 13, 1921. He was age 93 and 11 months. His son, Thomas, was living with him for the last two years of his life. His home was on North Green Street, Brownsburg, Indiana. Hanna Norah/Hanora preceded him in death. Patrick had a brother named John that fought in the Civil War. I don't know if John ever married. For ten years, John Dee lived with his nephew, John Dee and his wife Frances Mahoney (I believe in Los Angeles and San Diego, CA). He died in San Diego. DEE MISCELLANEOUS Martin and Michael Dee, who also lived in Central Mines during the same time as Patrick, might also have been his brothers. Martin was married to a Mary Saunder/Landers in Eagle River, Michigan. There was also a William Dee married to an Ann Daily in Eagle River.
I have a death certificate of a Martin D. Allen who was the son of James M. Allen and Hannah Dee. He died at 1229 G. street in Sacramento on 29, May 1937. He was born in Houghton County Michigan in February 1864. He was married to Susan M. He is buried in the Masonic Lawn cemetery in Sacramento. His mother was probably the sister of Patrick Dee. From the 1870 Houghton County, Michigan Census (http://epiphyte.libofmich.lib.mi.us/CensusImages/Roll674/701R.pdf): Allen, James 35 Hannah D. 35 Martin 6 George 4 Edward 3 John 2 Dee, Bridget 24 Allen, Michael 68

Oh thanks, Margot!
Yes, I am thinking the Ballyknock/Kilgobnet region is where my Martin Dee resided. I have various records saved, but no exact match. I don't think they were from Rathgormack region. The Kilgobnet area is beautiful with a view of the ocean. (I like going on Google maps and Daft.ie real estate site.)
The Findagrave Martin Dee might have been a cousin. John might have been a brother to my Martin.
I am not sure if the famiily came by way of Canada or through the U.S. I might see if I can get Patrick's passport record.
