Hello Spud Murphy, well this is a task and a half really; the details are very limited but I did manage to find five baptismal records for Michael Murphy in the Cork area:-
Church Baptism MurphyMichael Co. Cork 1816
Church Baptism Murphy Michael Co. Cork 1824
Church Baptism MurphyMichael Co. Cork 1824
Church Baptism Murphy Michael Co. Cork 1824
Church Baptism Murphy Michael Co. Cork 1822
Each of these Michael's had a mother named Margaret but there is NO records of any of these ladies having been registered in Cork within a five year period of 1781. No Michael born 1821 but if it is the census that you are working from, it is natural to have the incorrect year. The name Murphy brings up 1000's however and we really would need to have more details such as the father's name or a hint perhaps: is the 1781 date correct or just guesswork? I would so love to help you but even one more piece of evidence to give me alead would be great.

Hello again Spud, I have been revisiting your "Despair" notice - I often think the same about my own family line; however I have found 12 marriages in Bristol and around the Gloucestershire area for about the time that Jeremaih might have got married. Do you have any idea of the lady's name, surname or anything at all that might help as there is about 23 men of the same name which really doesn't help? In addition to this I have 219 Margaret Tobin's listed and the majority are from the Cork area was being clever and thought Jeremaih would not be so popular but surprise, surprise!
Let me know

Thank you for your ongoing help. I do have the marriage certificate for Jeremiah; he married Emily Harwood in GLOUCESTER 1880. They lived in Tredworth. IWhat I am really after is information re the union of Michael Murphy with Margaret Tobin in the hope that eventually I can discover where in Cork Michael came from as my plans are to visit Cork someday..

Again thanks Kieran ; I was hoping that the certificate would yield more information e.g ages so that I could do some.cross.checking. to convince me that they are my relatives. Any suggestions? Thanks Sue

Sue,
Looking back over the thread, if their first-born was Jeremiah in 1859, the 1841 marraige is possible but unlikey. There is no other record in Ireland for a marraige of Michael Murphy and Margaret Tobin, although the maraige could have been in a place where records weren't kept until later. The marraige could also have been in England?
Best wishes, Kieran

Thanks Kieran as you say very unlikely match; I have not been able to find a marriage record in England although perhaps more likely venue First glimpse of Margaret Tobin is Jeremiah's birth certificate born 1858 in Gloucester plain sailing after that to the present day. As previuosly mentioned planning a visit to Cork sometime soon and that is why I am hopefully searching !!

I am at last going to visit Cork staying in Rosecarber fpr a week in March.
Only new possible lead I have is a Baptism record for Mary Ann Murphy
March 28 1846 Cork and Ross Diocesan area Parochial area Bandon where the sponsors were a Michael Murphy, and Margaret Tobin who were married in Bandon 1835.
Hope this might help to shed some possible light on my ancestors Thanks .

Thanks for getting in touch ;Reading back my message to you I see I have made an error It was John Murphy and Honora Collins who married in Bandon 1835 the parents of Mary Ann for whom Michael and Margaret were sponsors
Would be very pleased to meet in Cork City if at all possible. We are arriving March 20 and leaving March 27 and have no fixed itinerary
