As a surprise birthday present for a friend I am attempting to do his family tree and have found myself stuck on the Irish side.
With no experience in Irish Family History I was delighted to find your site and sincerely hope that someone here might be able to help.
Being in Australia makes it even harder to access records although I do have subscriptions to Ancestry and Find my past.
The family that I am looking for had a son Michael Donoghue ( or various spellings )born between 1821 and 1824 but I have no idea where in Ireland his birth took place
According to his marriage certificate in 1849 which took place in England he was 25 at the time of his marriage to Ellen Gaffney his father is listed as James on this certificate while his death certificate in 1854 puts his age at 33 years
The 1851 census shows Michael with his surname spelt DONAHOE birth year 1824 Ireland.
Not much to go on I know but any help would be very much appreciated
Many Thanks
Gayle

3 years in difference between his age on the marriage cert and his age on his death cert is quite common, it depended mostly on who registered the death, people often did not know a persons exact age not even familymembers. So I would go by the age at his marriage.
The O'Donoghue name is very common but by knowing/guessing his year of birth and fathers first name you can try www.rootsireland.ie
Take note civil registration (proper registration) did not start till 1864 in Ireland we are mostly depending on baptism records for the time before 1864.
