Since there are so few written records, I strongly suggest taking one of the simple DNA tests on the market. Was able to find a group of cousins, some in Ireland and some in US based on our comon DNA. My grandmother came to US around 1900 and I remembered a few names. That's all that was neded to start conversations.  It also helped that I rememberd "Rathkeale" was the home town.

  • Dear Ralvey:

Thank you for your post and it is great to hear of your success with DNA.  We do not get involved with DNA testing on this program, but many of our volunteers would agree with your comments.  I have personally had good luck with DNA results for some branches.

It is good to note that DNA is only as good as those who have taken the test.  As you had a place of “Rathkeale”, that is of huge benefit to your research and you should definitely pursue this with the various free sites that are online.

You might note our link on the site about genealogy resources that are freely available:  https://www.irelandxo.com/resources/genealogy-resources

Please let us know if we can be of further assistance to you.

    Kind regards,

    Jane
