Hi! I am researching my 3xG GM Honora Donovan bc 1831 from Cork, possibly from Keamore, Kilmacabea. She immigrated to New Orleans, La. I have found one birth record that may be her showing her parents as Charles Donovan & Mary Sheehan. I am connected to Sheehan through dna & this is why I feel this could be her Family. I have a marriage record for the parents & possible sibling birth records. She only had one child & her name was Mary. I would love to some how confirm that it is her Family.

Thank You!

Rachel

  • Hi Rachel.

I have searched Kilmacabea Parish for Honora Baptism for the period 1820 - 1840 and found nine Honora Donovan's none of who had a Sheehan mentioned as a  Sponsor or other connection. Could you please ;let me know where you got her birth information that had a Sheehan mentioned and also, where or how you estimated her birth year to be circa 1831 and with Keaymore as a possible birth place? I will be happy to try to help you if I can but as yet have not found any of these records. You also mention it as being her Birth record but birth records in Ireland only begun in 1860s.

  • Hello Frank!

Thank you so much for replying. Record I have shows Birth Date: 1831, Baptism Date: 9 Jun 1831, Birth Place: St. Mary's, Cork City, Cork, Diocese: Cork and Ross with parents Charles Donovan & Mary Sheehan. Found 2 possible siblings: Jeremiah baptims 6 Feb 1827 and Ellen baptism 28 Nov 1836.  Marriage record of Charles & Mary 15 May 1826 @ St. Finbarr's (South) Diocese: Cork and Ross.  I had found Charles (possible father) in a Valuation with Lessor John H Townsend, Townland Keamore, Barony West Carbery, East Division.  There is Hurley & Sullivan listed in the Valuation which I show a match to a few in dna.  On the next page of the Valuation it shows Charles Donovan #14 and a John Shehan #15 (Land). Maybe I'm reaching but his is all I have to go on.  Thank You for your Help Frank very much appreciated!

  • Hi Rachel,

I would be very much obliged if you would let me have a copy of the record you have of Honora's Baptism as despite having huge resources available to me, i currently cannot locate this particular record. As regards the link with Keamore / Kilmacabea, I have some reservations about this link as the the part of Cork where your Honora was Baptised is at the very least forty miles from any part of Kilmacabea and travellling these distances in the early 1800s would be a major difficulty in addition to the huge ransition from city life to rural life.

Please if you can, send me the record copy so that I  at least may benefit from knowing where this record is archived. I will be very happy to help if possible'
