I have very limited info on my dear Irish ancestors. During the famine emmigration, Catharine Duane, nee Walsh, took her children, Margaret, Johanna, and Thomas to America, thru Canada. Catharine died of typhus during the voyage. The children ended up in Oswego, NY, USA. Thomas was my great-great grandfather. My father said the family was from Kildorerry.

Jane,
Thank-you kindly for your assistance. Some information I can share, that may help: Nicholas Duane, b. circa 1805, m. Catharine Walsh circa 1825-26. They had 5 children according to Kildorerry Parish records. Julia Duane b. 25 May 1827; Patrick Duane b. 14 Jul. 1829; Johanna C. Duane b. 3 Nov. 1831; Margaret Duane b.21 Jun.1834; Thomas N. Duane (Sr.) b.10 Jul. 1836.
At some point, probably due to the famine, Catharine Duane gathered Johanna, Margaret, and Thomas and headed for Canada. Catharine died of typhus aboard ship; the children were taken in by clergy and kind souls in Canada. It was there that the spelling of the Duane name changed to Dewine.
I would be truly grateful for ANY information on the above mentioned Duane-Walsh family.
Thanks so much,
Mark Dewine
P.S.- The other surnames on my paternal side include Farrell, Healy, Dunn, McCarthy, Chrystal, O'Hara, Ahern, and Leahy. LOL :) And... my mother was a MacNaughton! Ha ha

Hi Mark
I am trying to put a picture together of the Duane Family. You said you got details of the children from the Kildorrery records. Where did the original information come from. Did it come from the children who went to the States via Canada. There seems to be different Nicholas Duanes/Dwanes in the 1800s. I just want to make sure I am looking for the right one. I know a Duane family living locally who have the christian name Nicholas coming right down through the generations - quite possibly related to you but the problem is trying to fill in the dots. Can you send me any more information you have so that I can share it with the local Duane man. You can contact me at: brendahennessy1@eircom.net.
Regards
Brenda
