East Galway in the 1880s

Last evening the outstanding book Defying the law of the land: Agrarian radicals in Irish history, edited by Ballinasloe native Dr Brian Casey, was launched in the Town Hall, Ballinasloe. The book will be of interest to anyone who had ancestors living in the the east Galway area during the land campaign of the 1880s or indeed anyone with an interest in Irish (Galway) history. Essays of local interest include those on Matt Harris and the Ballinasloe Tenant Defence Assocation, and another on resistance to evictions on the Glinsk/Creggs estate of Allan Pollok.Pictures can be seen at www.facebook.com/SEGAHS for those interested.
