Hi, I'm after more info on Ellen Cavanagh from Thurles, Tipperary, Ireland. She was born about 1839/40 and was baptised at Cappawhite church, if that was her...Her father on the baptism record is John Cavanagh and the mother Bridget Barragry, but on Ellen's death certain 1903 in Rupanyup, Victoria, Australia states her mother as being a Mary. John and Bridget also had a son named John, also baptised at Cappawhite church. Both John Jnr. and Ellen were listed as Illegitimate. Also I can't find a marriage afterwards, between John and Bridget. So in maybe 1845-1855 Ellen went to New York, USA, why do I know that, well she married Charles/Carl Peterson/Pettersson in Troy, Rensselaer, New York, USA on the 22nd August 1855 and then came to Melbourne, Australia in January 1856. Going to the goldfields of Ballarat area and eventually moving to Rupanyup, Victoria, Australia, where they both ran a bording house or a Coffee Palace as it was then known as. We can't get the marriage certificate from Troy, Rensselaer, because they were destroyed in a fire. Ellen and Charles Peterson, he might've changed his name before landing in the USA in about 1845-1855, had quite a few children in Victoria, Australia. The 1st girl was named Anna Maria ( maybe after his mother, if her name in Norway or Sweden was Ane Maria or maybe after Ellen's aunt and/or stepmother Mary. The 1st boy they had was named Clement Niece ( maybe after Charles Peterson's father, sounds more Scandinavian than Irish ).
