Hi,

Wondering if you can help? Im trying to find the parents of Ellen McCarthy who was married to Patrick Purcell. Ellen was born around 1870 and we believe her family had something to do with a farm at Pallaskenry.   Ellen and Patrick lived in Limerick at Claire St in 1901, and Roxborough Rd in 1911. Thank you xx

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The third record on this link has the 1886 civil marriage record for Patrick Purcell and Ellen or Mary Ellen McCarthy. Patrick's father was Richard Purcell and Ellen's father was John McCarthy. John McCarthy was a shoemaker. Ellen was 19 and Patrick was 30 or possibly in his 30s. The quality of this record is poor.

I tried to find Ellen's baptismal or birth record. I found this 1868 record in the Kildimo/Pallaskenry RC records on the subscription site Roots Ireland. Not sure if this is the correct record. However, I did find the civil record from 1868 and it shows John McCarthy shoemaker so the baptismal record below is correct and Maria Aherne is the mother. See fourth record on the page  https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1868/03448/2265984.pdf

I believe I also found Patrick's baptismal record in 1855. See below the record for Ellen.

  • This is amazing! Thank you so much Roger! Ellen's Father was a shoemaker - great to know. Apparently Ellen was very beautiful - there's a big age gap between Patrick and Ellen so I'm wondering is there any evidence as to Patrick's or his family's occupation? There's a family story that links the Purcells to a farm at Ferrybridge.

I believe the marriage record showed labourer for the father of Patrick.

  • Is it possible to show the marriage link (I couldn't see if it was attached) so I can see which church they married in as it may be a good place to try and find other members of their family. Thanks so much! Tess

Sorry! I meant to attach the marriage link when I first responded but obviously did not.  https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1886/10846/5960147.pdf

Third record on the page. Quality is poor but they were married in the RC church of Kildimo.
