Emma came from County Wicklow to South Australia and married John Moore here. County Wicklow is mentioned on her marriage cert and also death reg but she was living in Dublin as a servant before leaving. We have found a baptism record for her at Castlemacadam Church with her father being Thomas but no mother mentioned and her religion COI. Temperly doesn’t seem to come up a lot in County Wicklow, possibly the men could have been miners and I can’t see any on Griffiths valuation. If anyone can give me any help on connections or where to look I would appreciated it. Regards Judy

Fáilte Judy!
Had a look at Emma Temperly's 1831 birth record there on RootsIreland. Did you know it gives her townland address as Kilmacoo? (near Connary Village)
So as well as the Civil Parish of Castlemacadam you might also consider joining the parish of Redcross (as Kilmacoo straddles both) as well as Rathdrum (see below)
The Temperlys of Kilmacoo
COI parish records of this time reveal just this once-off 1831 baptism of Emma by Thomas Temperly of Kilmacoo (not to be confised with a Catholic Thomas Temperly who was baptising in Arklow at the same time). Thomas Temperly was the brother of another Kilmacoo resident, Dorcas Temperly, the wife of James Lawrence who was a Miner (there were copper mines all about Avoca and Kilmacoo was right next to the Connorree Mine (townland of Connary).
Dorcas Temperly married James Lawrence on 18-Jan-1824. Both gave their address as Castlemacadam. In 1830, they baptise a child giving their address as Kilmacoo. By 1833 (next baptism) their address was Connary.
The Temperlys of Knockanode
In 1774, a Thomas Temperly COI was baptised by Thomas & Jean Temperly of Knockanode (Castlemacadam). The Temperlys of Knockanode are the only ones with 18th century parish records in Co. Wicklow. Thomas Temperly of Knockanode was baptising children with Margaret from 1751-55, then with Jean/Judith from 1763-1780. For this last 1780 birth, they had migrated northwards to the civil parish of Rathdrum.
In the 1750s both a Henry and Robert Temperly of Knockanode turn up on CofI marriage records. So there were a number of Temperlys here in the in the 18th century. Probably came in for the mining which began activity there c.1752.
Kilmacoo and Knockanode are close to each other (located either side of Castle Howard) so there is a strong possiblility that Emma hails from this line.
The 1824 Tithe Applotment Records for Kilmacoo (Upper and Lower) and Knockanode are not turning up any Temperly or Lawrence land records I'm afraid. I think you may have been right about them being miners... that would explain their lack of record on Griffith's as well.
Hope this helps. Best of luck!

Hi Judy & Rua:
I will edit this thread to include both Redcross and Rathdrum in Counties Wicklow.

Recently and quite by accident, I came across this May 2018 conversation about Emma Temperly and the Temperly families of County Wicklow more generally. i have researched my County Wicklow Temperly forebears extensively and recgnise many of the names mentioned. If Judy is still interested in this line of enquiry, I might be able to asist. if so, she might leave details in this thread for me to contact her directly. John Temperly, Canberra Australia
