Hi,
My grandfather (John Fair) was born in Clonbur Ireland in 1888. His father was George Fair, son of James Fair, son of James Fair, son of I think William Fair). James and Bedilia Fair lived and died in Clonbur and I think they are buried in Rosshill cemetary. George Fair married Jane Young Abbot (daughter of George Abbott) in Headford in 1874. George Fair and Jane Abbott Fair lived in Clonbur until 1889 when they immigrated to the us with their six children. I know that my Fair ancestors built what is now called the Fairhill House and I would love any information on the Fair or Abbott Families. Thanks to anyone who has any information. Debbie Fair

This is from the NUI Galway Landed Estates database:
"Fair (Clonbur) - The Fair family were established at Cloonbur, barony of Ross, county Galway, from the late 18th century. They were agents to the Berminghams and Earls of Leitrim of Rosshill, from whom they leased a number of townlands. The Blakes described a night spent in the half built house of Mr Fair in 1823. Later generations of the Fairs entered the legal profession and were involved in the law firm of Fair and Murtagh of Athlone and Moate, county Westmeath. Through marriage with a Hodson they were also party to a number of land transactions in the Athlone area. Some members of the family are buried in Rosshill cemetery and the Lynch family, descendants of the Fairs, run the Fairhill Hotel."Patricia

Hi Patricia, Thank you very much for that information. I had already researched quite a bit online so I did have this already, but I very much appreciate you pointing it out to me. I never could figure out which Blakes were the ones mentioned or any further informaiton on his description "of the night spent in the half built house of Mr. Fair in 1823. If you happen to know any more about that I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you again - it's very appreciated. Warm regards, Debbie
