I am looking for any help in confirming (or refuting) the information I have listed below or in continuing my search for additional family and records.
Jody Smith
-------------------------------------------
Richard Forrest and Mary Carey (my 4x great grandparents) and are listed as the parents of Michael Forrest on his death certificate. Both are listed as having been born in Ireland on Michael’s death record; I have no other information for them. I assume they stayed in Ireland as they do not appear on any of Michael’s U.S. records.
Michael Forrest and married Mary Flanigan (my 3x great grandparents)
- Michaels was born in Ireland about 1810 from U.S. death and Census records, although one lists 1820
- Mary was born in Ireland about 1815 (U.S. Census and newspaper article about her death)
- They were married in Ireland (1860 U.S. Census already has them married)
- 1900 U.S. Census lists Mary having arrived in the U.S. about 1850
- Mary’s maiden name (Flanigan) is listed as such on her headstone
- I have found a marriage record in in Killeagh Parish (15 Feb 1838) that I am pretty sure is for Michael Forrest and Mary Flanigan, though it is extremely difficult to read
Michael Forrest and Mary Flanigan had 6 children as follow:
Catherine
- Born abt 1842-1850 Ireland (U.S. Census and cemetery records)
- I have found a baptism records from Killeagh Catholic Parish for Catherine dated 10 Jul 1839 with parents listed as Michael Forrest and Mary Flanigan
- Arrival listed as 1860
Richard
- Born abt 1844-1852 Ireland (U.S. Census and cemetery records)
- I have found a baptism records from Killeagh Catholic Parish for Richard 11 Nov 1841 with parents listed as Michael Forrest and Mary Flanigan
- His marriage records lists his parents as Michael Forrest and Mary Flanigan
- Arrival is not listed
Edmond
- b. abt 1848-1851 Ireland (U.S. Census and cemetery records)
- Arrival not listed
- Edmond died 13 Mar 1869 in New London, CT USA and was buried St. Mary's Cemetery, New London, CT. The headstone reads "Edmond son of Michael and Mary Forrest, aged 18 years, A native of Dangon Parish, Co. Cork, Ireland". If I am correct Dangon or Dangan is a variant of Killeagh Parish.
Mary (my 2x great grandmother)
- Born abt 1843-1854 Ireland (U.S. Census records), birthdate listed as 6 August 1852 on death record
- Arrival listed as 1856 (U.S. Census records)
- Parents listed as Michael Forrest and Mary Flannigan on death record
Ellen
- born abt 1853, Ireland (U.S. Census and Cemetery inscriptions)
Margaret
- Born abt 1856/1857 in the U.S.
Additional Information: I have found a ships passenger record matching the family fairly closely in regards to birth years (based on US censuses, burial records) listing Michael, wife Mary, and 4 of the five children (Catherine, Richard, Edmond, and Ellen…Mary is missing from this passenger record). Ship was the Canada departing Cork and arrived New York 25 Apr 1854. Based upon the arrival date and the listed names, it seems likely that this is the family.

Hi Jody, I am looking over old queries and a quick info on this one for you, Cork church records are free online in recent years, click on church, location Cork (Not many counties on under church) sign in for free and search, there are 5 Michael baptisms for the period 1800 to 1830, remember it is possible not all records are there so you still may miss him, https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/
Civil records on the site only commence for all in 1864, Protestant marriages from 1845.
If you are still interested and do not find what you are looking for please revert and I will see what I can find.
Good Luck
