I'm at an impasse w locating parentage of both my great x 3 grandparents, Daniel ( 1786-1868) and Ann Noonan nee Brien ( 1797-1876). Daniel and Ann were both born and died   and Ardamoher, Galbally, Limerick  and Anglesborough, Limerick.

Their daughter, Ann O'Donnell nee Noonan ( 1830-1916) hails from Anglesborough , too.

Daniel and Ann's parish marriage certificate is recorded as having taken place on Feb  10 1824 in Galbally & surrounds with two witnesses/ sponsors as Thomas Noonan and Morgan Brien who could be either father/ brother of  Daniel and Ann respectively?

Any help gratefully received,

cheers,

  • Tim:

The RC baptismal records for Galbally parish start in 1810 so we won't find baptismal records for Daniel and Ann.

The Tithe listings for Galbally civil parish are from 1830. There is a Daniel Noonan in Ardnamoher. Not sure how he may be related to Ann.

There are seven Brien/O'Brien records but none in Ardnamoher.

  • Roger, cheers, Thanks to you , I'm more the wiser.

The Noonans you've found may be related but as its property related , interfamilal connections need ongoing corroborration.

As regards the Briens, three Morgan Briens feature in the 1830s Tithes you sent me , any one  of the three may be my great x 4 grandfather as Morgan would be 60 years of age.

Galbally is  from where several of my O'Neill/O'Donnell  and now Brien/Noonan forebears hail and are buried. So, I'll have to ascertain parish of forbebear before I can look back in 18th century. How do I establish that or is it just a case of looking at all parishes around Galbally in 1770s and wading through baptismal tomes hoping against hope to chance upon said ancestor?

    Once again, cheers!

  • Hi Tim!

Regarding the Tithe records for Morgan Brien, it is possible that there was only one Morgan who had three separate leases of land.

The Galbally RC records start in 1810. Almost all of the RC parishes in Co. Limerick have records starting in the 1800s except for the parishes in Limerick city and two other rural parishes: Bruff and Monagea. Neither of those two parishes are close to Galbally.

  • Roger , I'll start going through Galbally RC parish. records from 1810 onwards as Morgan Brien would be around 40yo and Thomas Noonan around 52 as he was born around 1858; his son Daniel would be around 24y yo his name might appear too. Thanks for heads up on their being only one Morgan Brien in Galbally at that time w multiple tithes yo his name - lateral thinking !! Cheers , TM
