We are trying to locate the parents of Ferdinand Carroll b. 1751 Killeshandra, Co Cavan. The family history is that he was the youngest child and his father died before he was born. He apprenticed for 7 years to a weaver, Johnston, and married Isabella Johnston, ( b. 1756) on 10 May 1775, Church of England, Drummcrow South, Co Cavan.
Ferdinand Carrol is on the 1796 Flax Growers of Ireland, Cavan County, in Killeshandra. Also on that list is James and Paul Carroll of Killeshandra. The Flax List also has George, John, and Thomas Johnston.
Ferdinand and Isabella had 12 children and Ferdinand sold his life lease in 1799/1800 and the entire family left from Dublin in the Spring of 1801, on an old war vessel with 200 passengers, bound for New York. The ship landed at New Castle, DE and upon arrival, the captain was arrested for cruelty to passengers. Ferdinand's son, Samuel was the eldest and the only one married to Mary K. Agnew, c. 1799 in Killeshandra.
Ferdinand Carrol started out for Chillicothe, OH. In Pittsburgh, PA the Holland Land Company warned that there was fever and chills in that Ross County, OH, so he decided on agreeing to the Land Company's offer of 100 acres of land free for making a settlement and staying on it for five years. Ferdinand settled on Tract 159 in Erie County, PA, and purchased Andrew Halsey's right of settlement for 30 dollars in gold. Ferdinand d. 1831 and Isabella d. 1830 and are buried in West Union Cemetery (also known as Asbury Cemetery), Union City, Erie Co PA.
