Any information will be great -this I know.
Francis Greany married Catherine Langan in Annaghdown 1840. -Roman Catholic.
Son Michael born 1845 - 1850, immigrated to Durham England before 1874 and married in 1877 to Sophia Scully. They then immigrated to New Zealand in 1877 with 2 children Andrew and Catherine.
Michael had a brother Patrick who also went to Durham England probably with Michael and then followed him to New Zealand.
There must be other siblings? what happened to Francis and Catherine.? Appreciate any information.

Hi,
Thank you for your message.
Have you tried looking at church records in Annaghdown for more information. If you can find Francis and Catherine?s marriage record you may be able to find their father?s names and occupations, the names of witnesses etc. You may also be able to find birth records for other siblings.
Most Catholic records are held locally so you may need to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website that you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. It also shows you where copies of the records are available. For Annaghdown parish, follow this link:
As you can see from the above link the Galway Family History Society West have copies available. Here is their email if you would like to contact them, however a fee may apply:galwaywestroots@eircom.net
Civil registration began in Ireland in 1864 so any births, deaths or marriages in the family after this date would be recorded in these records. Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office in Dublin. Here is their website:

You can search the indexes to these records online at:

Have you tried looking for any family members still in the area in the 1901/1911 census records? http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/
Here are some other websites that you may find helpful:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
Family Search: www.familysearch.org
Genealogy Links: http://www.genealogylinks.net/uk/ireland/galway/index.html
I hope some of this is helpful. Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,
