I am researching my Finley and Colgan line. John Finley (b. abt 1801) married Maria Colgan(b. abt 1810) in 1829 in Daingean, according to a marriage record I located. I found baptism records for some of their children: William, b. 1830; Elizabeth b. 1834; Ann b. 1839; Dominick b. 1842; Margaret b. 1843 and Richard b. 1847. I believe their other children were: Catherine b. abt 1833; Dennis b. abt 1837 (he is my great-great-great grandfather); Mary b. abt 1838 and Bridget (Delia) b. about 1851 in New York. It appears the Finley family arrived in New York in 1851, settling in the Richmond section of Staten Island. My 3x-great grandfather Dennis eventually moved to Newark. On the baptism records of most of the children, Annfield (Killaderry?) is listed - I suppose this may be the town name? On Ann's record, Clonadd is listed. Is anyone else researching this line? I'd love to hear from you!

Griffiths Valuation for Clonad townland, parish of Killaderry, 1854 has a Daniel Finlay and several Colgan households listed. Possibly relations of your ancestors:

There were Colgan & Finlay families there in the 1901 census:

Hello! During my research into my family, I came across a 1870 census report, in Newark, NJ, showing Dennis Finley (35 y.o., born Ireland). Wife Julia, 35, daughter Mary, 10, John, 7, and Eliza, 6. Dennis and Julia born in Ireland, and children born in New York. This sounds like the family you are researching. I also have a copy of Dennis’ U.S. Civil War draft record. We can connect in you are interested in learning more. Hay St. Patrick’s Day! Tom
