HI,
I am having a hard time finding anything on my 2xgf. He was Michael Foley, born about 1866-1869. I have his American death certificate which lists parents as John Foley and Mary Malloy. I have search irishroots.i.e., and many of the parish records online but can't find anything. I have no other records except his children's birth certs which were all in America but they don't provide any information for Ireland. There isn't an marriage record. I can not confirm if any John Foley's listed in Griffith or Tithe Alottment are the same family. I was told we are from Leitrim but someone else says we're from Kerry.
Does anyone know of any newly released documents that I can search that could help clarify where this family is from?
Thanks, Eileen

Welcome back to Ireland Reaching Out!
I searched on Roots Ireland and www.irishgenealogy.ie (church and civil records) and did not find a record for Michael Foley. One possibility is that he was born before 1864 and the parish where he was baptized, does not have records back to 1863. I can see at least four Leitrim RC parishes which do not have records back to 1863 or earlier.
Depending on his age John Foley may not be in the Griffiths.
Are you aware of any siblings that might have been born 1864 or later?

Hi Eileen
Welcome to the IrelandXO Leitrim community!
Looking at this handy Molloy + Foley surname crossover map, the odds appear to be significantly stronger for Co. Leitrim!
I would suggest you join and post your ancestors to the following civil parishes:
Co. Leitrim: Mohill, Kiltoghert, Cloone, Carrigallen
Co. Kerry: Dromod
It's unfortunate that no records are turning up as Roger discovered. However, there are workarounds if you can can give any further information he suggested (such as siblings, in-laws, marriage witnesses, cousins who may have emigrated with him, occupation etc).
Please post Michael's story to the ancestors database and you'll be surprised what turns up!

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunatly I don't know anything else. He died young and the only records I have are several of his children's birth records and census in USA, which doesn't provide much information. Nothing else exists on this man. (smile) this is why he is so frustrating, lol.
