My ancestory, Mary Graham was born in Tisrara in about 1816. She emigrated to Massachusetts about 1840, where she married Timothy Moran. She and the family had moved to China, NY by the mid 1840s, and she died there 7 Jan 1887. I'm interested in finding any other Grahams who may have lived around Tisrara in the early 19th century.

  • Hi there,

Thank you very much for your query on Ireland Reaching Out. You might be able to find more Grahams (or indeed Morans - perhaps they lived in neighbouring communities before they emigrated?) on the land records called the Tithel Applotment Books (1823-38). This gives details of land occupation and valuations for individual holdings prior to the Great Famine.

    Good luck with your research!

  • Hi Jamie,

Thanks for the note.... It looks like we are 3rd cousins, as I am also descended from Ann Moran and John Galvin. Elizabeth's older sister Mary Agnes was my g grandmother, and she married Jeremiah Whalen of Covington, NY. They lived in Buffalo, their daughter Mary Whalen married Thomas McMahon, their daughter Patricia married my dad Russell Papa, and I am one of the 4 Papa boys.

I have a big tree up on Ancestry and some other sites that I can share, but I have also found/ downloaded some interesting docs such as Timothy Moran's death notice, John Galvins will from familysearch and more. Let me know if you would like me to email to you.

Do you happen to know where the Morans or Galvins are from in Ireland?
