Morning all .. I'm trying to find details of relatives born in termonfeckin .. surname was Gray .. father was Archibald and the mother Anne/Annie . Annie was a child of Robert and Ann Turner ..  I have found records for most of their children apart from my great grandmother called Sydney Kate .. she passed away in 1937 aged 51 in Tynan Co Armagh , her married name was Edmondson .. any ideas where I could look for a birth or baptism record .. I have looked on civil Irish records but am stumped .. thank you

  • I have a feeling this might be Sydney’s birth here, with the father’s name incorrectly given as Arthur instead of Archibald. His occupation was butler which fits with working on an estate. Mother’s maiden name is Turner which is correct (parents married Gortin 1882), and the year fits perfectly with Sydney’s age in later censuses etc.

The local Church of Ireland baptism records might confirm if this is the right birth.

  • Elwgn .. thank you .. I had found that record on civil which fits perfectly but I was thrown as someone told me that because there is no first name that person had died at birth .. I have contacted civil who are looking into it for me .. one or two of the children have Arthur as father

  • It was common at that time to register a birth without the child’s name. It can mean that the child died young (in which case there should be a matching death), but often it just means they hadn’t decided on a name when the child was registered.

  • That's what I had thought .. there is no death record around that time .. I presume this is the record of my great grandmother as it seems to match census years , death year etc .. many thanks for your info
