About three yrs ago one of IRO people named Col replied that Latnamard, Aghabog, Monaghan in the Griffiths Val. was taken in 1858. This led me to wonder where to find that information as it is extremely important in determing if an ancestor was the person listed. It the arrival date in America is 1856, then it would be known that this is not the ancestor. How does one find this information? Dona McPhillips

Dona,
If you have brought up a particular townland on Griffiths, click on “occupants”. When the list of occupants comes up, click on ”details”. You will see a section with “printing date” which tells you what year it was compiled.
Griffiths clerks started work in the southern counties of Ireland in 1848 and worked north over the next 16 years finishing in Co Antrim about 1864.
The Valuation Revision books take the initial valuation forward. So if your ancestor was in Griffiths in a particular year you can search forward to see when they were deleted and who replaced them, right up to 1929 (and beyond in some cases). The Revision records for the counties of Northern Ireland are on-line on the PRONI site. Those for the Republic of Ireland are not on-line yet and are held by the Valuation Office in Dublin.
