Gr gr Grandparents marriage

this is a record I found of my Gr Gr Grandparents  it was Joseph and Sally (Sarah) who came to Canada with their 4 children, Anne, Eleanore, Joanna and Benjamin. Benjamin is my gr grandfather. I am trying to find more info on my family in Ireland and if there were other siblings of Joseph. There is information that his Dad’s name was Abraham but can’t find too many details.  Any info or connections would be appreciated.

  • In the 1857 Griffith's Valuation of Donegal, there was a head of household named Joseph Hanlon:

Griffith Hanlon Joseph Dunglow* Templecrone Co. Donegal

     (*should be Dungloe)

  • There is an A. C. Hanlon in Dunloe in the Tithe Applotment Books:

Note there are two men named Hamilton on the same page...Joseph's wife was a Hamilton?

    I hope this is helpful.

  • Hello:  My great grandmother, Theresa Hanlon, was married in Dublin to James Connelly.  Theresa's parents were Elisabeth and Edward.  Theresa was born in March of 1844 in Dublin.  Emigrated to the US around 1870.   Kerry

  • PS.  Forgot to mention that all the Connelly's and Hanlon's were in the printing/bookbinding business.  Hope this is helpful.  Kerry.

  • Thank you Patricia. Yes Sally (Sarah) was a Hamilton.

I believe Abraham had 2 other kids (Ellen & William) but not sure who his wife was or if any of them including Abraham, stayed in Ireland or emigrated elsewhere.

I remember when I was a little girl, my Grampa (who was also a Joseph Hanlon) went back to Ireland to settle an estate. I just remember something about a castle because I was young and was excited that we had a castle? lol

sure wish I had asked more questions before the people who had the answers passed away. 😔

  • Thanks Kerry

its so challenging to trace the Hanlon family. I don’t know if any of them came to the USA or stayed in Ireland or went elsewhere.
I have found spelling and record keeping makes it even more challenging. I found my gr gr grandparents ship records listed as Hanlin and Joseph was listed as John. So confusing.
