Hello! I am searching for the location in Ireland to find my family records. I have DNA tested with a few companies, and been trying to find a location in Ireland to search with no luck for a long time. I have a second cousin match on 23&me, and have narrowed it down to this person. Hannah Kelleher Hickey. Born approx 1878, died in Haverhill, MA in 1907. Her children all born in Massachusetts. Her death certificate says Father: Cornelius Kelleher, Mother: Nora Donahue.
My great grandparents. William Sweeney And Margaret Dahill born abt 1846. Emmigrated to the Boston area around 1870.
My great grandfathers parents per his death cert are Terrence Sweeney and Margaret Conroy. Can’t find anything!
My great grandmothers parents, all I know is John Dahill. No mother was known. I am starting to think maybe Margaret was illlegit? I have no matches for the name Dahill. I do see matches for the surname Kelleher, so I am hoping this name will lead me in the right direction. I can’t figure out the secnd cousin connection!
Any help greatly appreciated! Thank you! stephanie

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
Do you know for sure that Hannah was born in Ireland or America?
I looked for marriage records for Cornelius Kelleher and Nora Donahue. I found two leads both in the RC parish of Glenflesk which is not too far from Killarney. One record in 1865 and the other 1873. Is it possible they married and then emigrated and Hannah was born in America. I was not able to find any civil marriage records for the 1865 and 1873 marriages. Did Hannah have any siblings?
No luck with a marriage record for a William Sweeney and a Margaret Dahill. The surname Dahill appears to be from the Cork/Waterford/Tipperary area.

Did Hannah marry Laurence Hickey? I see a Laurence Hickey and his wife Hannah and two children Cornelius and Nora in the 1900 census They were in Haverhill. Hannah emigrated in 1890 and was born in Ireland. Need to do more work to find a baptismal or birth record.

Hi Roger, thanks for all the help. First, yes, Hannah married Lawrence Hickey. Was trying to post her death cert, but you can find the photo of the death cert in familysearch.org.
Here is a link to Margaret Dahill Sweeney’s Find-a-Grave memorial https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/188258064/margaret-sweeney in her obit, it mentions a Cornelius Hickey, I believe that was Hannah and Laurence’s son. Not to confuse, but my 2nd cousin DnA match is not a Dahill or Sweeney. But the 2nd cousin confirmed she is a Hickey from Haverhill. I don’t know if Hannah had any siblings in the US. Lawrence Hickey does. Here is his FaG link https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/198746220/lawrence-hickey
As far as my great grandparents, I believe they were married in the US. I have contacted everyone I can think of, and can’t locate a marriage record. Like I mentioned, I don’t know Margaret Dahill’s mother’s madien name. I am thinking it could be Kelleher? I have found Dahill records in the Waterford area, but nothing that comes close to the information (birth year, parents names) I have. I am just going on this dna match Hickey/Kelleher To see if I can find a parish to search for my records since they are a closer match. Hope you are able to follow this, and I answered all your questions. I think the Kerry records are something I will definately look into!! Stephanie

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/196901002/mary-bean. Also on my Margaret Dahill Sweeney’s obit it mentions Joseph Bean. I researched his parents, and appears Joseph’s mother was a Dahill. First name is Mary, have no other info. Hard to search for information on her in Ireland. Just no clue....

Sorry for all the posts. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/196902475/patrick-dahill. Patrick Dahill, appears he is a sibling of Mary Dahill Bean above. Tried to search for them in Ireland, no luck.....just wish I could find one person in the Irish records. It’s exhausting.

Stephanie:
I will look at your posts tomorrow.
I noticed that the Glenflesk records stop in 1873 right before Hannah was born. I went thru all the Kellher civil birth records from 1873-1876 in the Killarney registration district but did not find a record for Hannah or another name such as Honoria. Hannah is always a tough name to track sometimes Hannah or Johanna or Honoria etc.
Daniel Hickey and his family lived next door to Laurence Hickey and his family in 1900.

Throw in a few more Dahill’s. Out of all listed, can’t find one in Ireland. I have to be doing something wrong.

Stephanie:
www.irishgenealogy.ie is a free site which images of birth marriage and death records. Birth records go from 1864-1918. I looked at a 138 Kelliher birth records from 1873-1883 in the Killarney registration district and did not find any children born to Cornelius Kelliher and Nora Donahue. The Killarney district is fairly large covering 13-14 civil parishes. I did see children born to Cornelius Kelliher and Ellen Sullivan. So either I'm in the wrong area or any children were not registered. Co. Kerry is a tough county to research because their records are not on the subscription site Roots Ireland. I plan to look in other area.

Miriam, thanks for taking a look. Yes, I manage all those FaG memorials, so I am familiar with the information. also familiar with irishgenealogy.ie searched for records many times I will take another look at the Waterford area. it can be grueling, and easy to miss something. From what I remember, the information didn’t match up.
Roger, thanks for taking another look, maybe Hannah’s death cert is incorrect. Let’s hope not. Well, guess I will just keep trying.
Thank you both very much, much appreciated. Stephanie

I looked at all births in Ireland from 1873-1876 for either Hannah, Johanna or Hanora Kellegher and did not find a good record.
