The Griffiths Valuation survey was conducted in Co. Tipperary in 1850. I listed out the Thomas and Michael Cody records (no Codey records) and also the John Heany records from Griffiths. There are a lot of unknowns. Were John and Michael alive in 1850 and leasing land? If not, then these records don't apply. Was Thomas leasing land? Another place to check is the Tithe Applotment listings from earlier in the 1800s. www.titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie

I also looked in www.rootsireland.ie Did not locate an 1835 birth record for Anne. There was a 1825 birth of a Thomas Cody to a Michael Cody but when I added Ellen Mahoney the record went away which indicates that it was a different Thomas.

I forgot to mention that I could not locate a townland called Boherlaha. The closest in Tipperary is Boherleigh which is in Finnoe civil parish.

  • Hi Vicki,

I have found the baptismal record for Anne Heaney. She was baptised on 15th June 1832 in the catholic parish of Boherlahan, civil parish of Ballysheehan in the barony of Middlethird. Her parents, John Heaney and Mary Ryan, lived in the townland of Synone just over three miles from the town of Cashel, Co. Tipperary. She was one of five children baptised in the above parish to John and Mary. Her siblings were: Ellen 1818, James 1822, Mary 1825 and Philip 1828. One of Anne's godparents was Catherine Flanagan.

The Heaney family had left the townland of Synone by 1845. A Heaney family lived in the nearby townland of Farranavarra in 1845 and was still there in the early 1850s. Although the head of the household was John, I'm unable to verify that it was the same John who once lived in Synone. It is possible to trace the exact location of John Heaney's holding in Farranavarra.

I was unable to match a Codey/Cody name to your enquiry. However, there were a number of Cody families living in the parish of Boherlahan in the 1820s

Best of luck with your research,
