Greetings to all!

Would appreciate any assistance in locating info such as parish, birth, & marriage records for the following Kane family members:

James Joseph Kane was born about 1814 at County Kerry, Ireland, married Margaret Quill (born abt 1818) about 1845, and emigrated to USA between 1848-1853.  He died in 1898 at Muscatine, Muscatine, Iowa, USA.  Margaret died in 1893 at Chicago, Cook, Illinois, USA.

Son, John Joseph Kane, was born 17 April 1846 at County Kerry, Ireland.

Son, James Joseph Kane, Jr., was born about November 1848 at County Kerry, Ireland.

The other children were born in the USA and I have been able to find the info on them.

Thanking anyone that may be able to provide any help with the Irish records for Jame Sr. & Jr.,  Margaret Quill, & John Kane.

Sincerely,

William A. Laske

  • William:

I searched on two different sites: the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie and the subscription site Roots Ireland. I came up with one lead for a baptismal record for son James Kean on Roots Ireland. I did not locate a marriage record or a baptismal record for John.

James Kean baptized April 1848 at the Ballylongford RC church  father James Kean mother Margaret (no maiden name listed). Lived in Doonard townland. The only Doonard townland is in Kilnaughtin civil parish in northeast Co. Kerry which would be covered by Ballylongford parish.

The records for Ballylongford according to the NLI site  https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0654  have a gap between 1838 and 1869. The local Roots Ireland folks in Co. Kerry must have found some records for the gap period.

In any event, you have a lead for your family.

Let me know if you have any questions.

  • Thank you Roger!  Appreciate your assistance.  That's one spelling of the surname I haven't seen used for the family name yet, but you never know. Thanks so much for your search.

  • Hi Peter,

Thank you for your post.  I have Ellen "Nellie" A. Kane in my tree, but with some conflicting & different info that you note is found in the Niedermann web site.  According to the various census data, death cert, etc., I show Ellen born 1853 in either Philadelphia PA or New Jersey vs. Ireland.   I have also found that she and James Joseph Russell had eight children total (and no James A Russell with date of birth & death as noted).  I will try to contact Jan Niedermann to clarify and perhaps collaborate & share info.

Thank you so much for your search & posting to my request.  It is very much appreciated!

    Sincerely,

    Bill Laske
