Hello,

I am trying to find any family who might be related to my 3x great grandmother Susannah Henrick born abt 1815 Ireland. Unfortunately all she ever put down on the UK census's as her birth place was Ireland.I have been told that the most likely place to search is Wexford.

Susannah married Thomas Abbatt/Abbot 12/2/1833 St Denis, York, Yorkshire ( St Denis is a protestant church). On the census's from 1841 to her death in 1873 they are living in Leeds, Yorkshire.

This is pure speculation. On the 1841 census a Joseph Henrick born abt 1787 is living with his family in York and giving his birth place as Wexford. On the 1851 census he is in Leeds. As Susannah and Joseph both have links with York and Leeds could they be both related?

Many thanks

Keith Braithwaite Leeds,Yorkshire.

  • Hi Keith, Looking at your post and the online records, Joseph married Ann Dixon in 1813, is this correct?
Any chance of getting their marriage record, to see his fathers name.

I did a bit more searching and saw this......

    Name:Joseph Henrick
    Discharge Age:31
    Birth Date:abt 1786
    Birth Place:Wexford
    Discharge Date:3 Feb 1817
    Discharge Place:Dublin, Leinster, Ireland
    Regiment:4th Regiment of Dragoon Guards
    Rank:Private
The next results I got were of him in the Census records in England.
Was he in the Army?   A site called Fold3 have docs. I am not a member, sorry.

  • Hi Margot and Miriam,

Thanks for the relies. When I mentioned Joseph possibly being related to Susannah, this was pure speculation on my part. On the 1841 UK census I think that only 9 people with name Henrick appear on that census in Yorkshire so I thought that they might be related.

In reply to your question Margot, I don't know if Joseph married Ann Dixon, I have not research Joseph so I don't know if he was in the army. On the census's his wife is Ann. Joseph's occupation is (cordwainer which turns out to be shoemaker.)  I thought if I posted a message on this site I might get lucky and somebody might reply and say that Susannah was in their tree and possibly Joseph. If a link was established between Susannah and Joseph I would know for definite that Susannah was born in Wexford. The marriage certificate for Joseph and his wife Ann would be on the parish record only as the civil registry did not start over here until 1837. The parish records are very basic, usually the father's does not appear. 2 witnesses might be on, and if I found the cert I suppose I might get lucky and Susannah might be a witness.

In reply to you Miriam, Thank you very much for the offer to send the details for Joseph, but I am not sure if Joseph is related to Susannah.

I have just some more research.....................

I subscribe to Ancestry, on the public member trees It has a Joseph Henrick married to Ann Dixon as you say Margot . It gives his fathers name as Murtagh Henrick and his 2nd wife Mary White with children John, William and Joseph no Susannah. I have learnt not to trust family trees on Ancestry as some contain wrong info.

I also subscribe to Find My Past and just done a search and it gives this on the parish marriages "Joseph Henrick Private 4th Dragoon Guards married Ann Dickinson 7/12/1813 witnesses Wm Wright and Ann Allen". No mention of a Susannah.

Many thanks for replying, looks like I will have to hope that somebody has Susannah in their tree

    Kind regards

    Keith.
