Hickey and Doheny (Daughney) - Surnames. Looking for ancestors from Kilkenny, Callan area. Details I have are:
Michael Hickey married Judith Doheny in Callan (Diocese of Ossary), Kilkenny on 1st December 1855. They had the following children, all in Callan. Mary born 1856, Eliza born 1857, Catherine (Katherine) born 1862, Johanna (Johana) born 1864, Elizabeth born 1866 and Anne born 1872. Anne was my great-grandmother.
Catherine, Elizabeth and Anne moved to Cork (1901 and 1911 censuses). Elizabeth had a daughter (Elizabeth Madigan) born in Clonmel, Tipperary in 1891. Anne also had a daughter (Mary Hickey) born in Clonmel, in 1893. No father was mentioned.
I am unsure of the births and deaths of Michael and Judith or where they were living in Callan then. A possible death for Michael is 27/12/1896, he was living at Haggards Green, Callan, his daughter Mary was present at his death.
Any further help, advice or information would be greatly appreciated as I live in England.
Thank you.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and although there were a number of Judith Doheny baptismal records in the 1830s none were in Callan. I did find a Michael Hickey baptismal record in Callan. Might be for your ancestor.

Hello Roger, Many thanks for the very useful information. The birth info on Michael Hickey looks a possibility and the date is about right. I will pursue the parents names, thank you.
On looking again at the brief marriage record 1/12/1855 of Michael Hickey and Judith Doheny it states that they had no fixed residence and yet they were married in Callan. He could have perhaps been a traveller or thatcher or transient worker? Also Judith’s surname is written Daughney. It shows on the children’s births as Doheny. The two witnesses were Ned Daughney and Bridget Walsh. My apologies for omitting this information and thank you once again for your help. Regards, Viv
