In the attached history of High Market, NY, written in 1883, when the town was being incorporated, it claims that the Irish settlers there wanted to name the town, "Sligo". Three of the Sligo families in High Market, NY, were a) Patrick Loftus (~1798-1877) and his wife Mary Neary (~1814-1898); b) Martin Loftus (1819-1891) and his wife Ann Finerty (~1822-1912); and c) Thomas Loftus (~1830-???) and his wife Catherine ( ~1830-????).
Since Catherine Fenaghty accompanied the 4 year old daughter of Martin and Ann Loftus to the USA in 1850, it is possible that Catherine Fenaghty and Ann Finerty are sisters, and they married the brothers or cousins, Martin Loftus and Thomas Loftus. This is speculation.

Thank you for your post to the message board and the interesting attachment. Would it be possible to create a Chronicle about High Market and refer to the 3 families? Please let me know.
