I am researching my great-grandfather Owen Kennedy. He was born in Tullow Parish, County Carlow, Ireland in 1823, but I have reached a dead end. I am curious how and when the Kennedy's from Ormond moved into County Carlow, and has anyone made the link from County Carlow Kennedy's back to Ó Cinnéide ?

Hi, this will give you information.
O'Kennedy - WikipediaMy Kennedy's were tough they stayed in Tipperary.
Your Owen Kennedy was Baptised on the 13th January 1823.
Father was Owen and mother was Mary (nee not recorded)
Their address was Green (not sure as some have Gleen) in Tullow, County Carlow
The sponsors were Mary Quigly and John Henesy.
In 1825 Ann Kennedy Baptised 28th August and it states Mary FINN as the mother
In 1827 Mary Kennedy Baptised 3rd September states just Mary as the mother.

Margot, thank you so much for the reply.Know that Owen Kennedy has siblings, and a hint at his mother's name, hopefully will give me some more leads to chase. Have you read any of the books by Brian Patrick Kennedy abouth the Kennedy family? I know the family of JFK was from New Ross in COunty Wexford. I wonder if any of his books talk about how and when the Kennedys started leaving Tipperary and moving east? Again, many thanks for the information, and one day I might be able to wright you back with the salutation "Dear Cousin"

Hi Dan,
Yes I have spoken to Brian Kennedy, I missed him by a day when we were over in Ireland one year.
My Kennedy's were the ones that worked on the Pacific Highway, they went to Australia after the 1860's.
I am in touch and have met one of my direct lines when they had a over night stay in Wales on their way back from Ireland.
From what I know the Kennedy's went to Roscommon and then on to Wexford and settled by the river hence New Ross.
My 3 Kennedy's that went to Australia were from Patrick Kennedy and Margaret Quinn, Patricks parents were Martin and Ann Kennedy. (I am from Martin and Ann's other son Edward)
My next Kennedy's went to New Zealand about 1850. This was a brother or an Uncle to Martin (Not been able to work that one out yet, no records available)
I am in touch with 2 of their line, I told them what I knew and that I was looking for a Priest that came to Ireland for a visit in the 1950's.
Yes it was their Priest, again I told them what I knew and they said we have all those names I mentioned.
I did get more information for them. This must be your Owen's father in the Tithe records
