  • Hello,

The Catholic parish baptism registers for Drumsnat and Kilmore are only available online for the years 1875 to 1880, link provided for future reference:

    https: //registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000635024#page/66/mode/1up

I have unsuccessfully checked the 1911 Irish Census, County Monaghan for a William and Catherine Hughes, it is possible that Catherine’s parents were not married at the time of the Census or even located in another County:

    http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/

I also rechecked Civil Birth Records for the period 1915 to 1920, I opened all the female births recorded in the County of Monaghan for those years and found no child recorded as being born to a William and Catherine.

Civil Parish of Kilmore, Co. Monaghan:

If you would be happy to add your "source" information or any other details on Catherine, like siblings, did she marry in Ireland, please do so at the end of this post, another set of eyes may help.

    Good luck,

  • Hello again,

Thank you for providing your source reference which was helpful.  With the additional information, I rechecked birth registrations for the years 1915 - 1920, Ballyleck Townland, Monaghan Civil Registration District, regrettably there are no birth registrations recorded for your Hughes Family in that area.  I can only suggest that your contact the General Register Office and request that they undertake a search, or alternatively try and obtain the birth and/or baptism certificates for one or both of Catherine's siblings.

There is only one birth registration for a Jacob Hughes recorded around the same time as your Catherine's birth, however this was in 1910 and  down in Co.Carlow, Jacob was born to Catholic parents Michael Hughes and Catherine Hughes nee Bolton.

No, I have not sent you any attachments, I may have clicked on that button by accident.

An index of Ireland Civil Registration including Births: 1864 - 1958, Marriages: 1845 - 1958, and Deaths: 1864 - 1958, but excluding index records for Northern Ireland after its creation in 1922 can be located on Family Search which is free:
    https://www.familysearch.org/en/

Please find a link to Church of Ireland Parish Registers when has been recently updated:
    https://www.ireland.anglican.org/cmsfiles/pdf/AboutUs/library/registers…

Depending on which country in the world that Catherine or her brothers married, either one or both parents may be listed on a marriage certificate, death certificates may also have parents details recorded on them, however that information is only as good as the knowledge of the informant, depending on how well they knew the person in question.

I'm sorry that I could not have been more help.

  • Thank you. You have already been of great help. I will search other avenues. The Parish of Kilmore would have a record as I do of the baptism surely? How would I get further information from them? Maybe they would have a detailed certificate which could reveal more info e. g mothers maiden name? Her birth would have to have been registered I would have thought. Regards

  • Civil Registration of Birth's commenced in Ireland in 1864, so if your Catherine was born here in 1919, there should be a record at GRO, please contact them and they will do their best to assist you, it is worth noting that the online system is not yet perfect!

The Representative Church Body - Church of Ireland hold all parish register's, etc:

  • Hello again I have now found out from a family member that William Hughes married Ellen Power in 1908 in Waterford. Are you able to confirm marriage details? I want to trace her side of family from that info. If you can confirm I can get marriage certificate from GRO. Would be Church of Ireland. Thank you.

  • Thank you so much for all that information to add to my family tree. By any chance do you have access to Census for William and Ellen in Loughooney Monaghan? Looks as if the family moved there from Waterford.
    Kind regards
