I would be pleased if somebody can tell me the options available to discover The Life and Times of Roscommon and the surrounding area between 1850 - 1900.
Are their books available and research done on this area. I also would be interested if Roscommon was a hot spot for political Nationalist and anti - British feeling plus if the Military had barracks there.
The area was strongly Roman Catholic so I am presuming that it was not always a bed of roses there, but maybe, the community there were more compliant.

Peter:
Over the years, I have read a number of books on Co. Roscommon from An Gorta Mor to the War of Independence. Below are four books for your review. The last book is quite large and over $100. You may also want to contact the main library in Co. Roscommon to see what books they would recommend. http://www.roscommoncoco.ie/en/Services/Community/Library/Locations/

Here is a 2020 Roscommon People article about what happened in Roscommon in 1920 https://www.roscommonpeople.ie/war-for-independence-in-roscommon-100-ye…

Thanks again Roger I will follow that through.
Also thank you for help in my request for information on Bedelia Fox. I now have a lot more information on her which voids a lot of my original thoughts. So, it will be a back to square one for her and a complete reset of my research.
I now have a list of her brothers and sisters but initial research hasno mention of a Bedelia, but I have a sinister feeling that somehow she might have changed her name to immigrate to Australia and could possibly have altered her birthdate because on her marriage certificate in Australia it is listed she was 21 in the year 1900 the year of her marriage. I am assuming you had to be twenty one for no parent's permission required for marriage back then.
I will give you her brothers and sisters name in due course when I can make some sense of all this. In the meantime what was happening in the years before she left Roscommon will form a very important part of her intriguing story.
Thanks

Thank you Clara.
That is what apparently happened. I could find a Bridget Fox moving to Australia in 1900 when she would have been 21,and everything fell into place here and I have a good background information on her.
Strangely, it is her pre 21 year days I have very little information on even though she still has family living in Roscommon and Dublin that I know of. Obviously, their is a simple reason for that, but I have yet to find any information of her existence other then her Birth and Baptism in Kilteevan parish in Roscommon.
She was born 10th Feb 1877 and baptized the next day11th Feb 1877.
Peter.
