Hello, I have no information as to where in Ireland my ancestors came from. They lived in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1861:
Jas Hayes b 1816; Ann Hayes b 1815 and their children-John b 1841; Margaret b1847 and James b 1849-all were born in Ireland. Jas was a shipyard worker and there were 3 'boarders' in the house- Patrick Hayes b 1819; James Cunningham b 1841; John Cunningham b 1843, all from Ireland.
My great grandfather was James Hayes b 1849 and he continued the naming tradition of the first son being called John and the second son James.
I would be grateful for any help. Thankyou.

Hi Kathleen,
You may want to post as much information as you can concerning your relatives. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers may be able to assist you.
You may have already tried some of these sites but they're worth mentioning....
National Archives UK http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/default.htm
Nat. Archives Scotland http://www.nas.gov.uk/doingResearch/default.asp
Public Records Office NI http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm

Also you could try checking the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) or the later Griffith's Valuation (1848-64). The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38): Microfilm copies of the books for all of Ireland are available at the National Archives of Ireland (NAI) http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/tithe-applotment-books-and-the-primary-griffith-valuation/ or the Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS). Griffith's is freely available here: www.askaboutireland.com or here: www.failteromhat.com Failte Romhat has lots of other useful links you could try looking at.
I wish you the best of luck with your search.
Kind regards,
