My 3rd gr grandfather, Benjamin Jack (b 1768 in no. Ireland, Co. unkn) immigrated to US in the late 1700s, eventually settling in western Pennsylvania around 1795. While there were MANY Jacks in Pennsylvania around that time my Benjamin was the only one with that name (most had the same first names repeated over and over). So far no one here in the US has been able to associate him with any of the other Jack families present at the time. I have no idea how to begin researching his family in Ireland - any suggestions would be most appreciated! Mary

Hi Mary,
You may want to begin your search by attempting to find a point of origin for your relative. Do you know much about his emmigration? Where he arrived in the US? Often more information was given at the point of arrival than at the point of departure and any information on him in the US may have clues for finding him in Ireland. Do you know the names of his parents or siblings, dates pertaining to any of his relatives in Ireland, his religion...? etc etc....
Some sites that may be of use to you in your search are:
