In his obituary in 1866 in Manhattan, New York, James Denin it was stated James was from Mynanghel, Derry. I can't identify where Mynanghel is (it's not in a townland or parish index). Does anyone know where this place is?
Thanks, Kay O'Rourke
I appreciate everyone's comments and suggestions, Thank you. I think I have attached the obituary which states he is from County Derry. His wife was Bridget Dillon who was from Gortnahoe, Tipperary. They married in Manhattan in 1855. I don't know his parents or siblings names. He was a stone cutter by profession and died of typhus at age 38.

I can’t find anywhere of that name in the usual sources. It is likely to be a corruption but I can’t suggest what that might be in Ireland.
I searched the 1831 Co Derry census for anyone of the name Denning/Denin and variant spellings but without success, though there was a family living in Inshaleen, parish of Errigle in 1869.
A death in Desertoghill parish:
Another marriage, in Aghadowey:
That was about it.
Possibly DNA testing may be a way of matching with others who have additional information about where the family originate. Family Tree DNA reportedly has more people with Ulster roots than any other company. That obviously increases the chances of finding a match. You might want to try them or, if you have already tested, you can transfer your results to them for no fee.
The North of Ireland Family History Society is running an Ulster DNA project in conjunction with FTDNA and can offer testing kits at a reduced price. http://www.nifhs.org (Go to DNA project on the website).

Perhaps Mynanghel is a mistranscription of Myroe Level townland?

If not, in some parts of Ireland "Moy" in a place name is pronounced "My." Perhaps one of the "Moy" townlands is the one you seek?

Do you have any family connections which may help to trace the family ie parents of James , siblings, marriage, relatives? a copy of the obituary? etc
