I am looking for help to find possible information or relatives. James Joseph Foran was born in 1865 in Timahoe to John Foran and Bridget Bahan. I think his brother was Edward and his sister was Julia Lyman but not sure. Does anyone know of my family? James was the only person to come to the States.
Thank you

Thank you more than I can say for your help and information. I am trying to learn how to do internet and record searches but the changes in the spelling of names makes it a bit difficult. How would I find relatives still in Ireland? I would love to make contact.
Again thank you for sharing your gift of knowledge.

Barbara,
It will be difficult or impossible to locate descendants of relatives from 150 years ago with the info you now have.
You might trace all of John and Bridget's children, their children, etc. That's a big job--you'd need to start with their baptism, marriage, birth, death records, census records. You could also look at current Irish white pages online.
You might want to hire a professional genealogist.
And you might post a message at a Waterford heritage website, assuming there is one.

Hi Barbara, The Forans and Behans are families in my family tree in the late 1800s. My Great-Great-Grandfather Thomas Foran married Brigid Behan (both from Ireland) in Liverpool in 1866. Separately Maria Foran married my other Great-Great-Grandfather's brother James McCowen in Portarlington, Co. Laois in 1865. I have some detail on relative of Brigid Behan, i.e. names and birth/death records in the late 1800s. However, at this time I am looking to connect Thomas Foran married Brigid Behan to their homesteads / parishes, etc. It would be good if we could discuss to see if perhaps we can make a mutual connection. Regards, Paul

Your great-grandfather is my great-grandfather. James Joseph Foran married Catherine Reidy in Waterford city in Februart 1890 and had a son, John Joseph, in December 1890. John Joseph moved to Wales and married Mabel Rossiter in Pontypool, Monmouthshire, 1916, having two sons, but he died in 1927 as a result of gas injuries in World War 1. His elder son, John Stanley, was my grandfather and married Irene Gough in Newport, Mon., in 1939. I'd be happy to talk about the wider family.

Sorry, James Joseph Foran was my great-great-grandfather (my grandfather's grandfather). Auto-correct tried to collapse the generations!

Just to say that my James did not emigrate, as far as I know, so we may be talking about different people. Foran is a relatively rare name, so we could just be very unlucky!
