Hi,

I am trying to research my Bradley ancestors.  After about 4 years, I finally found the townland - Lower Drumnaspar.

Looking at Griffith's I see the landlord for essentially the entire townland (as well as some other adjacent townlands) was James Hamilton.

I am looking for any ideas of where I might find estate records or other documents for James Hamilton.

Thank you for any thoughts,

Mary Roddy

  • Hi Mary,

    Please see attached.

Registery of Deeds is valuable, as you can go through the various ledgers. Copies are printed and posted to the applicant in a few days.

  • Mary,

    Further information on Property Ownership.

In the event of you purchasing a copy of a Deed, use a cheque or postal Order.

  • The usual starting place for estate papers for that area of Ireland is PRONI in Belfast. You will find a number of James Hamiltons with land in their records. In addition the Marquis of Abercorn’s agent for that estate was a James Hamilton at one time too, so possibly this townland was part of the Abercorn estate. Their records are in PRONI.
