Back in 2019, I posted here about James Kearns born 1867. I believed his parents were John Kearns and Sarah McHale.

But I ended up re-checking some records, and a marriage record states his father is "Jacobi Kearns" which I believe is James.

The 1911 census also says he was born about 1862, I thought this might've been wrong and that he lied about his age.

I haven't been able to find any other James Kearns with the father also James Kearns in the Castlebar area, so I would appreciate some help in trying to verify if I have the right person.

He got married in Liverpool 21st Jan 1889, I am unable to make out if his age is stated on the document.

The subscription site Roots Ireland has a June 14 1868 baptismal record in Turlough RC church for a James Kearns with father James Kearns and mother Bridget Devany.

There is also a civil birth record for a James Kearns with father James Kearns and Bridget Devaney. The date was January 19 1869 but I believe the family registered the bith six months late and gave a incorrect date of birth to avoid a fine. The family lived in Lack townland which is in Turlough civil parish. Actually there is a Lack East and Lack West.

    last record  https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_retur…

There were four siblings John 1867 Laurence 1870 Mary 1873 Anne 1876

I did not locate the marriage record.

    Is this the correct family?

James Kearns Sr. died in 1893 after falling off a horse   https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_retu…

Bridget Kearns died in 1898 but the record indicates that son James was the informant  https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_retu…

So either your James had returned from England or we have the wrong family.

Can you share the marriage record you mentioned in your message?

  • It could be the wrong family as I believe this is the record for his marriage which is dated 1889.

This is is the marriage record in Liverpool, https://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&dbid=2182&h=94515…

The death record also seems to think he was born around 1868, this is why I ended up going with the family John Kearns/Sarah McHale.

The only other possibility is a James Kearns baptized Decmeber 9 1862 in Swinford with father James Kearns and mother Bridget Harcan. They lved in Swinford town and this James had six siblings (at least).

  • I have seen some people recording him as 1862, but with the death record stating his age as around 50, maybe he did go back to Ireland for a period but he did return back to Liverpool. I am going to ask a relative if he knows his mothers name.

Thank you for your help so far.
