G Day from Australia
James king was my Great great Grandfather and he came out to Australia from Dromore. Are there any relatives of James still there? Id love to find out all i can. Dromore was a very small village when he left. Was he a convict or free settler? im not sure. Prob the first. He died at age 51 near wollongong possibly in a mine collapse.Annie king was my great Grandmother and was only 14 when her father passed.

What denomination was James? Looking at the 1901 census of Co Tyrone there were 115 people named King in the county. A mix of Presbyterians, Catholics & Church of Ireland (Anglican). None in the Dromore electoral district in 1901
As far as church records of baptisms etc are concerned, Dromore Church of Ireland lost all its early records in the 1922 fire in Dublin. It has nothing earlier than 1870 or so. Dromore Presbyterian church has records from 1835 (copy held in PRONI in Belfast) and the RC church has records from 1835. They are available on various pay to view sites as well as free on this link:
You could contact the various churches in Dromore today (most have FB pages or at least newsletters) and ask to be put in touch with anyone in the current congregation of that name.
There are no Kings in the 1832 tithe applotment records for Dromore so that suggests your family were labourers rather than farmers.

On RootsIreland I found the baptism for a James King in 1838. At the time of baptism, he lived in Garvagh townland, which is about 15 miles from Dromore.
Do you know what the names of his parents were?
