Seeking additional information about my 3x great-grandparents, James Lynch/Linch (born abt. 1799) and Mary O’Shaughnessy Lynch/Linch (born abt. 1805). They left Ireland (possibly County Limerick), between 1837 and 1841 with four of their children: John (born abt. 1829), Mortimer/Martaugh (born abt. 1831), Johannah (born abt. 1833), and Michael (born abt. 1837). Patrick (born abt. 1841) was the first child born in Canada – in the Township of Dummer, County of Peterborough in present-day Ontario. Four children followed: Daniel (born abt. 1843), James (born abt. 1844), Bridget (born abt. 1847) and Mary (born abt. 1850). James Lynch was a farmer and a Roman Catholic. Someone has suggested that he lived at O’Brien’s Bridge in County Limerick, but I have no documented proof of that.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
O'Briensbridge is a townland and civil parish in Co. Clare not far from Co. Limerick and also Co. Tipperary.
I searched on Roots Ireland in the Co. Limerick records and found one possible baptismal record (transcription) that could be for the oldest son John in Askeaton parish in north Co. Limerick. See below.
Maybe the family left and moved to O'Briensbridge? The RC parish for O'Briensbride would be Doonass and Truagh but records for that parish do not start until the 1850s. Possibly they were baptized in Killaloe where records start in 1828. I would take a look at the register http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0793 and see if you see any possible records. The Killaloe records are not on Roots Ireland.
You may also want to consider autosomal DNA testing.
Let me know if you have questions.

Thanks very much, Roger. I've now located the John Lynch baptism record in the Catholic Parish Registers at the NLI, but I probably wouldn't have been able to find it without you pointing me in that direction, because the reproduction is so faint. I'll look for records for the younger children. Yes, perhaps the family did move, and the younger children were baptized in another place. At least I have some starting points.
Don't know a lot about autosomal DNA testing, but this is something I'll think about too.
Thanks, again. Eloise
