Unfortunately, I know very little about my Irish ancestors-- which is a shame, since it's their name I have. But "Smith" makes it very difficult to hunt for them.
What I know:
"David Smith was born in Madison county, Kentucky, and is one of the only two now living of a family of nine children born to James and Margary Smith, who settled in (Madison County) Kentucky from Ireland in a very early day. Both parents died many years ago in the state of their adoption."
This was written in 1883. David's brother James was born in 1804 in Madison County, Kentucky, so they must have settled there before then.
