Tracing ancestors William Gibson born 1831 who married Elizabeth Wiley born 1835 (various spellings of Wiley) on 12 May 1859 Rathmolyon, Meath.

They had a son John Arthur Gibson born 1862 and would like to know if he was born in ireland and if he had any siblings.

John Arthur Gibson ended up in NSW Australia and I am looking to see if I can find immigration records for him.

I located the civil marriage record and it shows that William Gibson was from Co. Longford. The names of the fathers of the bride and groom are on the record. See second record

The subscription site Roots Ireland has the Chruch of Ireland Rathmoylon baptismal records on their database. However, when I search for all of Co. Meath, there are no baptismal records for Gibson father William around 1860. Not all C of I parishes have records around 1860 on Roots Ireland so that may explain why a record does not show up.

    https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QPT6-PDMX son Herbert Gibson  29/12/1866

All of these births are in Longford so I assume all the children are born in Ireland.

    Great find!

    Wayne:

See third record  for 1865 birth of a male child. Family was living in Knappogue townland in Killashee civil parish Co. Longford

     https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_retur…

See fifth record for 1873 birth of Emily Kate Gibson. The family was living in Fairview which must be a local place name or a name they had for their farm in Killashee parish. Likely they still lived in Knappogue townland.

    https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_retur…

I found a death record for a 2 year old Henry Gibson who died of an accident. The coroner got involved so William's name is not shown.but  Place is shown as Nappogue so it has to be the same family.

    See second record  https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_retu…

Did the family emigrate in after 1873? No evidence of the family in the 1901 census.

  • Thank you very much for finding this information for me it is very helpful.

I subscribe to Ancestry. com but there is no record of passenger lists for their emigration. Do you know of other sites which would have this information?

Very few records of ships leaving Ireland in the 19th century. We always suggest that you look at incoming ship records in the new country.
